Lungstream AG

Preventing procedure-related hypoxemia during bronchoscopy

Lungstream develops a sterile single-use device for flexible bronchoscopy, a key minimally invasive pulmonary procedure with about six million procedures per year and projected further increase. Due to sedation, partial airway blocking by the endoscope, and underlying respiratory disease, oxygen desaturation is one of the most relevant complications of the procedure. Current management ranges from low-flow nasal oxygen up to endotracheal intubation, gradually increasing invasiveness. Lungstream maintains oxygenation by delivering oxygen beyond the anatomical bottleneck at the glottis, directly into the trachea, while keeping the working channel free. The device works with the oxygen supply and the bronchoscope already present in every endoscopy suite, so no capital equipment is required.
