Direct in-situ subsurface stress measurement

Incubated at EPFL, InSituMetrix develops advanced drilling instrumentation designed to provide direct, accurate rock stress measurements for deep subsurface energy applications. By adapting traditional flat-jacking methods for deep, narrow boreholes, the wireline-deployed technology measures vertical and horizontal stress components directly at depths up to five kilometers without fracturing or damaging the host rock. The data is processed through an integrated analysis platform to eliminate stress uncertainty, providing actionable real-time insights crucial for CO? sequestration, geothermal energy, nuclear waste disposal, and hydrogen storage.
