Restaurants pay a close to 30% commission to food delivery apps for their services. To bypass those excessive fees, a lot of restaurants try to implement (themselves or with a third-party service) their own online ordering service through a web or mobile app. But this doesn't convert: users stick with delivery apps because of the friction of creating an account, downloading a new app, using a new unknown interface etc...
Noé and Ilan (EPFL and ETHZ) had the idea to merge the best of both worlds by letting those restaurants sell their food w/ 0% commission (subscription), on an app already present on customers' phones: WhatsApp. Orders are made by texting with an AI clerk that lives on WhatsApp
The food delivery business is a 1,195.4 trillion US$ business in 2024 according to Statista.
