Millions of fish are used annually in order to assess the hazards posed by water samples and chemicals. They are being sacrificed in order to protect fish and the aquatic environment from harm. Such animal tests, however, are ethically questionable; as well, they are very resource demanding in terms of test material, waste produced, energy and time. We are determined to stop that sacrifice and replace such inefficient testing procedures. Our solution are long-term in vitro cultures of cells established once from a single donor fish. We apply these cells as continuous and homogeneous biological indicators to signal, for example, reduced fish survival, changed growth or fish health. Our clients appreciate the ethics, speed, and informative value of our “in vitro” fish.
