In medical facilities, nurses routinely face collapsed patients on the ground: in CH around 9% of patients in ongoing care fall. The existing tool to lift someone from the floor or transfer are both too time-consuming and burdensome. Accounts of seniors spending the whole night on a cold kitchen floor are no unusual cases. The consequences of such accidents can be traumatic.
The medical device we are developing is configured as a chair with a reinforced PVC seat at floor level that can rise at 70 cm from the ground. It completely removes the most painful part of getting up. Armrests are foldable and allow quick and easy transfer either to a bed or a chair. The base frame includes four load cells that monitor the patient's weight and transfer all relevant information to the medical staff.
