Founded in 2020, Avelo is a Zurich-based diagnostics startup developing an innovative device for collecting pathogens from human breath. This novel device works with existing PCR tests to detect specific respiratory pathogens, especially from the lower respiratory tract, where current methods often fall short. Our non-invasive, easy-to-use breath sampling kit has the potential to transform the diagnosis of respiratory tract infections, closing the gaps in tuberculosis and pneumonia sampling, ultimately saving lives and combating antibiotic resistance.
Avelo invented the breath collector with broad utility in mind (1.5bn market potential, 300m tests per year), comparable to other sample collection technologies such as blood tubes.
